As a result of severe facility damage, evacuations and other issues as a result
of Hurricane Katrina, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced that,
effective immediately, it is not accepting standard (formerly called third class)
or periodicals mail from any source for delivery to the following three-digit
zip code ranges: 369, 393, 394, 395, 396, 700, 702 and 704.
These zip codes are in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The
postal service is accepting first-class mail.
USPS is working to address the handling of standard and periodicals mail that
is already in the mainstream and addressed for delivery to these areas.
