Orlando, Fla.-based WinDoor Inc., a manufacturer of sliding glass
doors for homes and commercial buildings, has teamed up with Solutia
Inc., of St. Louis, to offer code-approved hurricane protection
products made with Solutia's KeepSafe Maximum laminated glass.
Windows and doors constructed with KeepSafe are designed to provide
an effective means of protecting buildings during a hurricane.
The products are certified, code-approved and have passed Florida's
building code requirements, including AAMA standards and Miami-Dade
protocols. According to a Solutia news release, the product also
offers sound reduction and solar protection benefits.
"Left unprotected, standard windows and doors will typically
be shattered by flying debris from a tropical storm or hurricane
force winds," said Frank Lukens, president of WinDoor. "This,
unfortunately, was the case this season with Hurricanes Charley,
Frances, Ivan and Jeanne. WinDoor's door systems are made with
KeepSafe Maximum's interlayer called StormGlass, by Oldcastle
Glass, and are specifically designed to meet all code-required
hurricane impact standards, and they can help reduce damage from
windborne debris and the likelihood of a structural failure caused
by sudden pressure equalization inside the home."
