SCHOTT North America Inc. of Elmsford, N.Y. has announced that the company
has purchased the business and assets of Applied Energy Systems Inc. (AES) in
Warwick, R.I., effective retroactively to January 1, 2006. The new company, SCHOTT
Applied Energy Systems LLC will continue to serve customers from the existing
Warwick, R.I. facility.
Applied Energy Systems is a fabricator, primarily cutting-to-size, edge finishing
and decorating, of SCHOTT Robax® transparent glass-ceramic panels for wood,
pellet, gas, and coal, stoves and fireplaces. AES, in turn, sells Robax® to
stove manufacturers.
SCHOTT has supplied Robax® transparent glass-ceramics to AES for nearly
25 years.
AES foundeder Peter Albertson will remain as vice president of operations.
Stefan Spengler, of SCHOTT's Home Tech business unit (Louisville, KY), will become
vice president and general manager of the newly formed SCHOTT Applied Systems,
LLC.
"We are taking every step we can to ensure that the transition will be
seamless for our customers," Spengler said. "We are very excited about
this acquisition, and we will grow this business by combining SCHOTT's vast glass
and glass-ceramics know-how with Applied Energy System's value-added processes
and systems."
