Expands Collection of Vistacool Subtly Reflective, Color-Enriched
PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, has added two new products to its family
of Vistacool subtly reflective, color-enriched glasses: Vistacool
Caribia glass and Vistacool Solargray glass.
Like Vistacool Azuria glass, which debuted last fall, these two
new products feature color-neutral, second-surface coatings that
transmit high levels of daylight while enriching the tinted substrates
underneath. As a result, the company says each product in the Vistacool
glass collection delivers the energy savings and interior brightness
of high visible light transmittance without the mirror-like glare
of traditional reflective glasses.
Vistacool Caribia features the enriched color of PPG's popular aqua-green
Caribia tint along with solar control performance. In a standard,
one-inch insulating glass unit with a clear inboard lite, Vistacool
Caribia produces a visible light transmittance (VLT) of 47 percent
and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.34. The result is
a light to solar gain (LSG) ratio of 1.38; the U.S. Department of
Energy's LSG designation spectrally selective glass is 1.25 or greater.
Vistacool Caribia can be coupled with Sungate® 500 low-E glass
or Solarban® 60 solar control low-E glass in a one-inch insulating
glass unit. These combinations produce LSG ratios of 1.51 and 1.66,
respectively, while still transmitting more than 40 percent of the
available natural light.
Vistacool Solargray, which employs PPG's cool light-gray glass as
a substrate, generates a VLT of 31 percent in a clear one-inch insulating
glass unit. The insulating performance of this product can also
be combined with Sungate 500 low-E Glass or Solarban 60 Solar Control
Monolithic Vistacool Caribia has VLT of 52 percent, but a reflectance
of 19 percent. For Vistacool Solargray, the reflectance is just
11 percent, yet the glass has a VLT of 34 percent. Vistacool Caribia
and Vistacool Solargray glasses are available through members of
the PPG Certified Glass Fabricator Program (PPG/CFP) and from
more than 100 glass fabricators throughout the United States and
Canada. According to the company, the pyrolytic coatings on Vistacool
glasses allows them to be easily laminated, tempered or heat-strengthened.
