Meltdown Glass Art & Design of Chandler, Arizona, has announced its kiln-cast
architectural glass products are now available with a certified fire rating of
60 to 120 minutes. The company says this allows design professionals to use customized
specialty glass products in applications such as healthcare, educational and other
public areas.
According to the company, the fire rating is achieved by permanently bonding
kiln-cast glass with a fire-retardant interlayer or ceramic glass product. The
products can be certified for hose stream, radiant heat, pressure and thermal
shock. The glass can also be fully tempered.
The glass is available in heights up to 120 inches and widths of 72 inches;
for larger applications multiple panes can be installed with fire-rated metal
framing. Total glass thicknesses range from 1 inch to 1.5 inches depending on
the required fire rating.
