J.
E. Berkowitz L.P. Secures "The Grand Kingsbury" in Chicago
J.E. Berkowitz L.P. of Westville, N.J., is fabricating 143,000
square feet of insulating glass units for one of the newest high-rise
condos on the Chicago skyline. Chicago Heights Glass of Chicago,
Ill. is the glazing contractor.
The
high-performance, low-E coated insulating units will be comprised
of Guardian LE-40 (2) Clear / Clear and LE-50 (2) Clear / Clear.
Chicago Heights awarded J. E. Berkowitz with the project to meet
the architectural glass fabrication requirements.
J. E. Berkowitz will fabricate each unit to minimize roller-wave
distortion tolerance not to exceed .003. The architect also requested
that J.E. Berkowitz produce glass at half of the recommended ASTM
C 1048 for bow and warp tolerance.
The 46-story, 420-unit luxury condo, designed by Solomon Cordwell
Buenz & Associates of Chicago will feature an expansive curtain-wall
façade, 422 parking spaces for tenants, and 1,200 square
foot of retail space. The Grand Kingsbury, located at 440 North
Kingsbury Street, will make its entrance into the up-and-coming
River North neighborhood next to the exclusive East Bank Club athletic
facility.
Chicago Heights will be glazing the curtain wall and windows on
the project through early 2007. The owner and developer, Habitat
Co. of Chicago, plans to open The Grand Kingsbury in the latter
part of 2007.
"With the addition of this large project, J. E. Berkowitz continues
to stay the course of our strategic business plan," says Robert
Price, director of sales at J. E. Berkowitz.
