GANA IG Division Endorses ASTM Standards

The Glass Association of North America's (GANA) insulating glass (IG) division has voted to endorse the use of ASTM E 2188-02, Standard Test Method for Insulating Glass Unit Performance and ASTM E 2190-02, Standard Specification for Insulating Glass Unit Performance and Evaluation. The group is also encouraging that these standards be allowed to supersede previously recognized standards.

"We believe the new ASTM insulating glass standards represent an opportunity to enhance the quality and performance of sealed insulating glass units," said Arthur M. Berkowitz, chairperson of the IG division, and president of J.E. Berkowitz L.P. "The commercial insulating glass fabricators that participate in the GANA insulating division recognize the need to ensure that our products will provide long-term performance when properly glazed. We feel the new standard specification and test method will assist our industry in striving to meet the needs of the architectural construction community."

In addition, GANA's IG division is also encouraging the ASTM E 06.22.05 task group on sealed insulating glass, the group responsible for developing the IG standards, to allow ASTM E 2188 and E 2190 supersede prior documents, E 773-01, Standard Test Method for Accelerated Weathering.
