DuPont
Launches Educational Web site on Hurricane-Resistant Construction
Practices
DuPont has announced that it and several key partners in the building
industry launched the interactive On-Line Help Center, which offers
rapid access to information about hurricane-related building materials
and code requirements.
The website, www.hurricaneconstruction.net,
is part of the Hurricane-Resistant Construction Project, a four-part
program sponsored in part by DuPont and designed to educate homebuilders,
remodelers and building code officials in Gulf and Atlantic coastal
states on hurricane and flood resistant construction codes and best
building practices.
The On-Line Help Center is staffed exclusively by building industry
experts who are proficient in building science and code related
information. Resources on the site include forums and discussion
groups on topics such as hurricane and flood-resistant buildings
and up-to-date, state-specific building code information. In the
"Ask An Expert" section, visitors can also get online
answers to their hurricane-related building and code questions from
building professionals.
The On-Line Help Center is another example of the DuPont commitment
to provide builders and code officials with information and education,
as well as hurricane-resistant building products, necessary to address
the challenges of building in hurricane zones and enforcing new
hurricane codes. Last month, DuPont and partners participated in
LaHouse LIVE. Partners included Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Grace,
Institute for Business & Home Safety, PGT® WinGuard®,
WindsorONE, Honeywell and Zinsser. The demonstration and educational
seminar at LaHouse in Baton Rouge, La., kicked off the Hurricane-Resistant
Construction Project. At LaHouse LIVE, almost 300 homebuilders observed
installations and demonstrations of hurricane-resistant materials
used in the construction of LaHouse, including DuPont SentryGlas®,
the first glass interlayer to help windows and doors meet stringent
hurricane building codes, DuPont StormRoom and DuPontTM
Tyvek® HomeWrap®.
The Hurricane-Resistant Construction Project is designed to provide
best building practices, code updates and other building science-related
information. In addition to the On-Line Help Center and LaHouse
LIVE, two other innovative resources are also available to help
builders and code officials find and understand information related
to hurricane-resistant construction. These include a Hurricane-Resistant
Construction Guidebook designed for builders and code officials,
and Code
College Network, which is an Internet-based training program
designed to train code officials and builders on code requirements,
building products and building technology.
