To celebrate the opening of Kalamazoo, Mich.-based AZON USA's
new world headquarters, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by
250 guests, took place June 24. The new headquarters building,
which consists of 19,000 square feet on two levels, was built
in 1962. With energy conservation a top priority, AZON completely
renovated the building, which it acquired in May of 2003.
"Our new headquarters means much more to us than just a
nice place to go to work," wrote AZON chairman Jim Dunstan
in the company's newsletter. "The new environment promises
to invigorate our attitudes as we connect to our global partners.
Everything planned in the new location is to help us be more efficient
and more productive."
As part of the renovation, AZON wanted to create an energy-efficient
building. The new aluminum windows installed, for example, incorporate
AZON's thermal barrier technology, as well as its Warm-light air
spacers between the lites of glass. Other energy-saving elements
include lighting, computer-controlled air handling and skylights.
The building also features an R-19 spray foam roof, and the entire
inside perimeter was framed with 2X6 framing filled with sprayed-in
