Twelve repair crews have been working to remove all of the glass balcony panels from the W Austin Hotel & Residences following three separate cases of breaking and falling glass. By late Thursday afternoon approximately 600 glass panels on the north, south, east and west sides of the building had been removed from the balcony frames and secured. Temporary engineered wood panels will be installed on each of the balconies.
No official announcement regarding the cause of the glass failures has been released.
“A comprehensive investigation continues and we will provide updates on our progress in the coming days,” says Beau Armstrong, chief executive officer of Stratus Properties, developer of the W Austin.
At press time information on the companies handling the glass removal had not yet been released.
