Announces New AIA-Approved Continuing Education Course on Impact
Systems
Arch Aluminum and Glass Company has introduced a new architectural
continuing education course, called Designing for Hurricane Protection.
The course will focus on designing and specifying impact-resistant
glazing systems to maximize hurricane protection. Architects attending
the presentation will earn a one-hour continuing education credit
in the American Institute of Architect's (AIA) Health, Safety, Welfare
category.
The course is designed to help architects and glazing contractors
specify the right product, in the right size and feel confident
that the product selected will meet the local and statewide building
codes.
"Even though many Florida architects are familiar with the
Florida Building Code glazing requirements, there have been recent
changes in Florida's code in the Panhandle, which will affect architects
in the future," says Jeff Ziesche, director of aluminum operations
for Arch Aluminum. "Change is constant. And the Gulf Coast
states of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana are all undergoing
significant revisions in their requirements. For architects designing
in these areas, there will be special challenges, as even the building
inspectors are just now learning what to look for in impact-resistant
glazing systems."
The course will be customized with impact code information to fit
the needs of local firms throughout the country. In addition to
covering impact-resistant glass, it will also provide architects
with valuable information on the framing, sealants and fasteners
needed to support the system adequately. It will also cover testing
requirements and approval processes for meeting local building codes.
Earlier this year, Arch introduced its first AIA course called Aluminum
Framing. The course provides architects with information about the
design and specification possibilities for aluminum framing. It
also covers different types of framing systems and finishing options
and discusses how aluminum framing can help meet sustainability
goals.
Arch Aluminum is a registered provider with the AIA Continuing Education
Systems. The hurricane course will be available mid-summer and the
Aluminum Framing course is available now.
