Proposed Changes to ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2010 Relate to Fenestration Requirements
June 17, 2011
A number of proposed changes have been submitted for ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2010, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. Comments are due July 10, 2011, and several proposed changes could have implications on the fenestration industry.
Addendum Q, for example, would update the ASHRAE dynamic glazing definition to match that of the National Fenestration Rating Council. Likewise, addendum W clarifies the credits for renewable energy and purchased energy in Section 11 (Energy Cost Budget Method) and Appendix G (Performance Rating Method)
Also related to fenestration, addendum O updates the fenestration air leakage provisions to clarify the requirements for glazed sectional garage doors.
ANSI is also reviewing changes to BSR/ASHRAE/USGBC/IES 189.1, Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. At this time there are no proposals that relate to fenestration.
