Vitro AP's Mirror Division to Add Silver Surcharge
May 27, 2011
Vitro Architectural Products’ mirror manufacturing division announced on May 26 that it would be implementing a silver surcharge on all mirror products beginning Monday, June 6.
In a letter to customers, Grenada, Miss., plant manager Wayne Smith wrote: “As most are aware, the prices of precious metals have increased significantly, including the price of silver, which is a major component of manufacturing mirror. In April, the price of silver spiked to $49.00 per Toz. This adds a tremendous cost to the production of mirror, much more than what can reasonably be absorbed.”
The surcharge will be invoiced on a per square foot basis and adjustments are to be made quarterly.
This latest announcement comes three days after Guardian Industries announced it would be instituting a silver surcharge on its mirror products.
