TruSeal Adds to PIB Sealant Family

The second product in TruSeal Technologies' family of hot-melt butyl and polyisobutylene (PIB) insulating glass (IG) sealants is now available. The product family, called EdgeTherm®, features high-performance, gun-grade IG sealants for manufacturing flexibility, according to the company.

PIB-H1, a high viscosity, high strength, 100-percent solids sealant is the most recent addition to the product line. It is based on a PIB polymer formulated to impact reinforcement, resist degradation from ultraviolet light and provide low moisture permeability. The company says PIB-H1 resists shearing in large, heavy lites of glass and retains flexibility through a wide temperature range to compensate for an IG unit's thermal movement.

PIB-H1 serves as the IG unit's primary seal, providing the main moisture vapor seal between the glass and metal spacer. A secondary seal for structural strength must also be used.
