Come Learn in San Antonio: TEXpo™ Seminars are Hard-Hitting and Hot!
February 26, 2010

The upcoming Glass TEXpo™ in San Antonio, Texas, will feature a seminar schedule filled with hard-hitting topics designed to hit issues specific to glass shops and to help businesses grow.

Dr. Bill Crawford will provide the keynote address, "Moving from Surviving to Thriving: How to Bring More Clarity, Confidence and Creative to Your Business and Your Life." In this session, to be held on April 15, Crawford will offer a step-by-step system for accessing the clarity, confidence and creativity necessary for success in today's world. Crawford, a licensed psychologist, is the author of four books and an organizational consultant and has been called the "Steve Martin" of corporate America.

Other seminars include one about hurricane-resistant glazing systems, provided by Greg Taylor of YKK AP America. Taylor will review how the International Building Code (IBC) interprets hurricane-prone regions and what must be considered in fenestration product selection, with a focus on Gulf Coast requirements, and more.

Photovoltaics, of course, are a hot topic in the industry right now, and Russ Huffer of Apogee Enterprises will take on this exciting topic, with a no-nonsense look at building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) as it relates to the contract glazing industry.

In addition, Tom Minnon of YKK AP America, will take on "Complying with Energy Codes and LEED," and will discuss how the latest energy codes affect the type of glass and glazing systems that are specified and installed. Participants will learn about ASHRAE energy guidelines and NFRC Certificates of Compliance to determine overall U-values for a system based on glass type. Minnon also will address how glazing systems can contribute to LEED credits.

In a presentation provided by the Texas Construction Association, attendees will learn about the latest laws affecting the Texas glass business, issues coming in the November 2010 election, and expected construction industry issues for the next legislative session.

Investment banker Michael Collins of Jordan Knauff and Co. will address the economy and will offer ideas for how to manage the economic changes effectively. He also will take a look at the region's economy and will provide a forecast for the future of the industry in the coming months.

Whether or not you've before had to handle a workers' compensation claim, you won't want to miss a presentation by Gina O'Hara of the Texas Construction Association WC Purchasing Group, who will explain what companies can do to keep costs down and losses under control in the event of a workers' comp claim.

Matt Docis of C.R. Laurence Co. Inc. will offer a technical seminar. He'll talk about the proper application of shower doors, mirrors and more, and will provide some tricks of the trade for these applications.

Glass TEXpo will be held April 14-16 at the El Tropicano Holiday Inn Riverwalk.

Pre-registration is open through March 19.
