Hurd, Owner and Operator of North American Glass Distributors, Passes
Peter Wing Hurd, 56, who served as owner and operator of North
American Glass Distributors in Dallas, died Wednesday, July 23,
2008. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August
8, 2008 at Mountlawn Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro, N.C.
Born August 5, 1951, Mr. Hurd was born in Portland, Maine, and
was a graduate of Freeport High School and the University of Maine
in Orono. He worked as an athletic trainer at Phillips Exeter Academy
in Exeter, N.H.
Mr. Hurd's experience in the glass industry began when he joined
his father-in-law, Don T. Culler, then president of Gardner Mirror
Corp. (today Gardner Glass Products), at the North Wilkesboro, N.C.-based
company. Mr. Hurd later became branch manager at Gardner Mirror
Corp. in Arlington, Texas. He also previously served as the president
of SEVASA USA.
John Myers, senior vice president of DreamWalls at Gardner Glass
Products, worked closely with Mr. Hurd early in his career.
"He was an integral part of growing the Gardner Glass distribution
business," says Myers.
Mr. Hurd is survived by his wife, Donna Culler Hurd of Dallas,
whose grandfather Edd Gardner founded Gardner Mirror Corp. He is
also survived by his mother, Mary E. Hurd of Topsham, Maine; three
brothers, Timothy Hurd and wife, Suzanne of Boothbay Harbor, Maine,
Christopher Hurd and wife, Kathryn of Bryant Pond, Maine, David
Hurd and wife, Mary of Freeport, Maine; four nephews; two nieces.
Memorials may be made to the Wes Jordan Athletic Training Education
Complex at the University of Maine, C/O Office of University Development,
