PPG Pledges $30,000 to Support Communities
PPG Industries Foundation has pledged $15,000 to the Delaware County
Cultural Arts Center (DCCAC), also known as The Arts Castle, to
fund a partnership program with Delaware city schools to provide
arts experiences and professional development for teachers. The
Foundation also pledged $15,000 to Cumberland County American Red
Cross (CCARC) for its Almost Home capital campaign, which will fund
renovation of the Greater Grace Church to become the new headquarters
for the chapter.
The Arts Castle provides Delaware County residents with access
to various multi-arts experiences, serving more than 900 individuals
each quarter through more than 100 classes as well as workshops,
performances, exhibitions and events.
"We are very pleased that PPG has supported The Arts Castle
in its Arts Integration into the curriculum program," says
Dan McIver, interim director, DCCAC. "The funds will be used
to conduct workshops for teachers in the city and the county school
systems. The goal is to give them alternative teaching methods using
the arts-music or drama, for instance-that might get through to
students when they respond poorly to traditional teaching."
"We are very pleased to receive support from PPG for the Almost
Home campaign," says Sherrie L. Davis, executive director,
CCARC. "This funding will get us closer to covering the high
cost of renovating our property and creating a permanent home for
CCARC that offers expanded collection of blood and blood products,
an emergency services command center, additional classroom space
and many more services to support the community."
