Minimum Wage Increased to $6.55 Per Hour, Effective Today The hourly federal minimum wage rate has been increased to $6.55 per hour, effective today, according to the Department of Labor. The minimum wage rate, which is established by the Fair Labor and Standards Act, previously was $5.85 an hour, and is scheduled to increase again in 2009-to $7.25 per hour.
