Operations are Underway at Great Lakes Glass Distributors

While some businesses are shutting down and cutting back, others are just getting started. On March 1 Mike McAskin opened Great Lakes Glass Distributors in Troy, Mich. The company was created to serve the Michigan and Northern Ohio markets with a variety of glass products for both the residential and commercial markets, including insulating glass, mirror, laminated glass, shower doors and more.

"Glass has been my full-time life since 1971," McAskin told USGNN.com™. "Even with the state of the economy … our customer base still needs a quality product base from which it can draw its glass products."

McAskin says that after these first three months, so far everything is moving according to their plans.

"The vendor response has been extremely strong and supportive; the reaction from the customer base has also been strong," he says. "One challenge, though, has been the fact that the financial support companies once had from banks is just not there anymore. But that's something we knew prior to starting out."

But McAskin is still excited and looking forward to growing this new company.

"We want to establish ourselves as the first call for just-in-time glass inventory support for both the commercial and residential markets," he says. "Our team brings more than 400 years of industry experience, product knowledge and a solid commitment to the best customer service available to support our trade."
