GANA Releases Ball Drop Test Method

The Glass Association of North America's (GANA) Laminating Division has released the Standard Test Method for Ball Drop Impact of Laminated Architectural Flat Glass. This test method is intended for use as an in-plant quality control test to evaluate the impact performance of laminated flat glass. It covers the destructive ball drop testing of laminated flat glass products intended for use in architectural glazing applications.

"The GANA Laminating Division members requested that a test method be created by the Association so that ball drop impact testing had a uniform written procedure for all laminating facilities to follow," stated Julie Schimmelpenningh of Solutia Inc. Schimmelpenningh serves as the chairperson of the ball drop test method task group chair and GANA President. "Now that this test method has been completed, the task group's next charge is to create a specification to compliment the new test method."

The Standard Test Method for Ball Drop Impact of Laminated Architectural Flat Glass is available as a downloadable PDF file or hardcopy. All GANA members may download the PDF file complimentary from the GANA members only website. Non-members may purchase the Standard for $25 by contacting GANA at (785) 271-0208 or by ordering online at www.glasswebsite.com.
