Market Closing Bell Today
February 16, 2011
In celebration of Daimler selecting Research Frontiers' SPD-SmartGlass technology for the Magic Sky Control glass roof option on its new Mercedes-Benz SLK roadster, Joseph M. Harary, president and chief executive officer of Research Frontiers Inc., rang the Closing Bell today at the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York.
The Mercedes-Benz SLK, which debuted on January 29, 2011, is the first large-scale series production vehicle to offer SPD-SmartGlass technology. According to the company announcement, this represents a mass production milestone for the SPD industry and smart glass in general, as dimmable glass moves from a small-format rear view mirror application to large-format applications across multiple industries including automotive, architecture, aerospace and marine.
The announcement explains that Daimler selected SPD-SmartGlass technology after evaluating various technologies and subjecting the Magic Sky Control roof with SPD-Smart technology to extensive durability and performance testing in extreme environmental conditions.
