Edgetech I.G. and LMI Custom Mixing Host Middle School
Students for Day of Learning
May 5, 2009
To help prepare students for the breadth of their future career
choices, Edgetech I.G. and LMI Custom Mixing in Cambridge, Ohio,
hosted approximately 50 pre-teens from Meadowbrook Middle School,
also in Cambridge. Divided into four groups, the students received
tours and presentations on manufacturing, product testing, product
management and marketing.
"We
have partnered with Meadowbrook Middle School in the past for similar
events, and were delighted to have another group visit this year,"
said Heather Crews, human resources, Edgetech I.G. "It's just
the right age for students to explore future career possibilities
as they are entering high school and making the decision to enter
vocational school or to pursue college-prep courses. While educational,
we also try and make it fun and interactive for them."
The large group of students was led through the production process
at LMI by Jim Nixon, general manager; the Edgetech testing lab by
Lee Canning, senior research coordinator; Edgetech production by
Tom Matthews, safety coordinator; and product management/marketing
by Bob Mecomonaco, Edgetech product manager. As the final leg of
the tour, everyone regrouped and students had the opportunity to
ask the entire team questions.
Other Edgetech and LMI volunteers for the event included Jeff Hanson,
Heather Crews, George White, Don Grimwood, Brian Weingarth, Jeff
Clipner, Carol Best, Steph Elliot and Jim Smith. Also on-hand was
Debby Sylvis, math teacher, from Meadowbrook Middle School.
