USGNN Original StoryDiversified Glass Services Expands Business Focus to Include Flat Glass

Diversified Glass Services in Rochester Hills, Mich., parent company of Henderson Glass, is taking a fresh look at its operations and core capabilities to ensure the company is poised for continued growth. Under the direction of interim chief executive officer Jim Churilla, a newly appointed executive team is evaluating all facets of the company to make it leaner and more competitive. With more than 60 years of glass industry experience collectively, this team includes: Paul Bradford, director of operations, Henderson Glass; Tim Tock, director of operations, Saf-Ti Glass Distributors; and Tim Wiegand, director of operations, Great Lakes Claim Services.

The team is considering the following as potential areas of growth:

  • Feasible expansion into automotive repair services;
  • More aggressive sales and marketing of flat glass, including a renewed focus on traditional advertising and marketing methods; and
  • Partnerships and collaborations.

According to Bradford, a move into the commercial aspect of the glass industry is a strong step forward for the company.

"We are aggressively looking to expand into the home and flat glass market, all the way, anything from repairing windows to complete installation of storefronts," Bradford told™ in an exclusive interview. "We've been doing that for several decades but we are stepping up our efforts there. That's a big deal."

Churilla added that the company is exploring many different avenues to continue growing the business.

"It is no secret that times are challenging right now. We are looking closely at every facet of our organization to determine our next moves in terms of growth and profitability," said Churilla, who came out of retirement in April to assist at Henderson. "Many people are not aware of the products and services we offer beyond windshield replacement and repair. Building this awareness will be key to our growth, and allow us to continue to be a Michigan success story."

Churilla continued, "This is a great company with a great heritage. Henderson was founded right here in Michigan in 1915, and we have the depth and the experience to offer our customers the same thing locally that they think they need to source globally. We also offer brick and mortar locations, and a level of customer service that our competitors can't match, which will position us well for growth into future."
