Dow Chemicals, DuPont Top Glass-Related Companies on Fortune 500 List of Largest U.S. Corp.

Dow Chemical ranked at 36 (down from 34) and Dupont came in this year at 73 (down from 66) on the 2006 Fortune 500 list of largest U.S. corporations, leading the glass industry rankings on one of the most well-known economic indicator lists published.

PPG Industries came in at number 232, up from the position of 236 that it took last year.

The list, which is published yearly by Fortune magazine, is tabulated according to the company's revenue the year previous and compares information including profits, assets, stockholder equity and market value, among other things.

Dow Chemicals' spot at 36 was secured with just more than $46 billion in revenue and a little more than $4 billion in profit, an increase of 61.4 percent from 2004 to 2005. Compare that to PPG's 2005 revenue, which was slightly more than $10 billion, with close to $600 million in profit.
