The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), of Alexandria, Va., has released the section numbers and titles for the upcoming 2004 edition of MasterFormat, the specifications-writing standard for most nonresidential building design and construction projects in North America. Several of the numbers and titles specifically address the glass industry, including section 04 23 00, glass unit masonry; section 08 32 00, sliding glass doors; section 00 50 00, windows; and section 08 80 00, glazing.

A significant difference in the 2004 edition's numbers and titles as compared with the 1995 edition is a new six-digit numbering system that replaces the five-digit format. According to the announcement from CSI, the new system creates room for users to develop and systematically organize comprehensive and detailed specifications, up to ten times as many subjects at each level of classification than was available with the five-digit system. In addition, the number of included divisions has been expanded, with 15 division numbers reserved to address new products, practices and priorities as they are developed.
