Acquires Australian Distribution Company
C.R. Laurence Co. Inc. (CRL), headquartered in Los Angeles, a supplier to the
glazing, architectural, construction, industrial, and automotive
industries, has acquired "CRL North," an existing distribution
company in Sydney, Australia. CRL North once had ties to the early
C.R. Laurence operation.
"Australia is quite a move for us, and one of which we are
quite proud. We see a great potential for growth in Australia. We
plan to apply the good business practices and dedication to the
customer that we have established here in North America to our new
operation," Donald E. Friese, CRL president and chief executive
officer, said In making the announcement.
Luke Collins, the former owner, has been named the managing director
of the operation, newly named "C.R. Laurence Australia."
He brings more than ten years of experience in the glass industry
to his appointment.
"Luke has a deep understanding of the Australian glass market,
is close to his customers, and has good business savvy. Our goal
is to make CRL a major factor in the glass and architectural hardware
marketplace in Australia. CRL already has a presence in Canada and
Europe, as well," Friese added.
CRL North has been serving customers out of a 10,000 sq. ft. facility.
CRL plans to start construction soon on a 50,000 sq. ft. facility
in the southwestern area of Sydney, close to many of the major glass
companies. The new warehouse will feature new shipping equipment
and computer systems. A "Will Call" Department will allow
customers to pick up orders on site, and will feature a major product
display area that will contain some of CRL's newest products, including
full size working models of CRL's architectural hardware products,
shower door hardware, railing systems, and transaction hardware.
"We are very pleased to be extending our capabilities to Australia
and the Sydney area," said Friese.
