USGNN Original StoryNetworking and Educational Programs Lure Industry Players to Annual BEC Conference

Industry veterans, new members and some who are just starting to learn about the Glass Association of North America (GANA) will travel to Las Vegas next week for GANA's 13th annual Building Envelope Contractors (BEC) Conference. The event is slated to take place February 15-17 at the Palms Casino Resort.

The BEC Conference has seen stellar growth since its launch in 1997, going from 75 attendees to 650 last year. And this year, despite the struggling economy, the conference is still expected to be the second largest. So just what is it that draws the industry to this event?

"The growth is because the conference has proven to be an excellent source of information and it's the single best networking event our industry has," says Max Perilstein, current chair of the BEC division. "No other event gathers the mix of people in one accessible place like BEC. I think people come back because they know it's a great chance to see their customers, suppliers and industry comrades, and that is really important."

Ken Altman, a project manager with Icon Exterior Building Systems, a curtainwall installer located near Baltimore, a new GANA member company, will be attending the conference for the first time this year. Altman agrees that the networking opportunities are one the biggest draws of the event, but the information presented is also important.

"I'm also attending so I can stay up-to-date with information and standards as far as the entire industry goes," says Altman.

David Norgren, president of Skyline Sky-Lites, a supplier of skylight systems located in Colorado Springs, Colo., attended the conference for the first time last year and will be there again this year. While he says his company has not yet joined GANA it is something he is looking into. And like Altman, the networking opportunities are bringing him back to the conference.

"The quality of the programs," Norgren adds, "is another reason for attending."

And Perilstein agrees, the event is one that mixes top-notch education and networking like no other.
