Updates Document Addressing Sealants Performance
AAMA 800-05, a technical specification covering performance and
test methods for sealants, has been released by the American Architectural
Manufacturers Association (AAMA).
According to Larry Livermore, AAMA Technical Standards Manager,
the revamped 25-page document, first published in 1992 and titled
Voluntary Specifications and Test Methods for Sealants, includes
the following sealant specifications: back bedding compounds, back
bedding mastic tapes, glazing tapes, narrow joint seam sealers,
exterior perimeter sealing compounds, non-drying sealants, and expanded
cellular glazing tapes.
"Sealants are an important part of proper window installation,"
Livermore noted. He added that the revised AAMA document provides
detailed information regarding sealants, including evaluating test
results.
The Voluntary Specifications and Test Methods for Sealants
is available through download, CD or paper copy at a cost of $18.00
for non-members and $9.00 for members. CLICK
