2006 National Convention and Design Expo Begins Today
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention
and design expo starts today; the event is being held at the Los
Angeles Convention Center and offers attendees the opportunity to
attend more than 150 continuing education programs, 100 professional
tours and visit with 800 exhibitors.
The educational program for the event includes themed presentations
with famous speakers, such as today's presentation "Architecture
on the Edge:Innovation…Engagement…Inspiration" with Frank Gehry,
Arata Isozaki, and José Rafael Moneo, and "Thought Leaders" panel
discussions that include Robert Kennedy Jr. as a panelist discussing
environmental responsibility.
Professional tours, some of which require entry fee and advanced
booking, include Walt Disney Concer Hall, San Deigo's Balboa Park
and tours of architect's homes.
AIA members will also attend regional caucuses and vote on national
officers.
The Design Expo opened its doors at 9:30 a.m. this morning and
will close at 5 p.m. Exhibitors include AFG Glass, C.H.M.I, DuPont,
Eagle Window and Door, Palmer Mirro Mastics, Wausau Windows and
Wall Systems, YKK AP, and USGlass and Architects Guide
to Glass magazines.
The Expo will be open 9:30 a.m - 5 p.m. tomorrow, and will close
at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
